Acupuncture

With over 20 years of clinical experience, acupuncture remains at the heart of my work.

This practice is more than just symptom relief — it's a way to support the body in finding balance, regulating the nervous system, and creating space for healing from the inside out.

Traditional Five Element Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a holistic system of medicine that supports balance within the body, mind, and spirit. In the Traditional Five Element approach, health is understood as a dynamic harmony between five fundamental Elements — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water — which shape our physical health, emotional life, and overall sense of wellbeing.

When the Elements are in balance, energy (Qi) flows freely, supporting vitality, resilience, and emotional ease. Stress, illness, or life challenges can disrupt this flow, leading to physical or emotional symptoms.

Acupuncture can effectively treat a wide range of conditions and often supports people who have not found lasting relief through Western medicine alone. While it is well known for its ability to relieve pain and other physical ailments, acupuncture is also highly effective in supporting fertility and promoting emotional health and wellbeing.

Five Element acupuncture works at a deeper level than symptom management. Rather than simply treating the pain or condition, it addresses the underlying imbalance that gave rise to it, supporting your body's natural ability to heal and restore itself.

The sections below offer brief overviews of the conditions I most commonly treat in clinic.

My Approach

I work at a pace that feels safe and supportive for each client — always considering how the body is holding stress and how we can gently begin to release it.

A Space to Heal

Treatments take place in a peaceful, designated space within my home — designed to offer calm, comfort, and privacy.

Womens's Health

As women our physiology is different to men's; a concept Western Culture hasn't quite caught up with yet.

We are more yin in our nature and our nature is cyclical.

From menstrual health, all the way through to menopause there are so many ways a woman can support her health.

Fertility

Often even in cases of unexplained fertility or long term infertility acupuncture can provide solutions where there seemed to previously be none. One of the reasons for this is that whatever you are coming for acupuncture treatment for the aim is to take a closer look at the body from a holistic perspective and correct any and all imbalances.

During your consultation all aspects of your fertility will be discussed. Often women may have clues that their periods are not healthy; they may have lots of PMS, pain, heavy bleeding or irregular cycles, usually these symptoms improve from the first cycle of treatment.

Stress & Anxiety

There can be many underlying conditions which contribute to our emotional well being and life circumstances weighs heavily on the balance - we lead very busy, hectic stressful lives these days and from time to time most of us find that we may need more help than is available to us.

Life events such as death, the ending of relationships, exams, motherhood all can try us emotionally, acupuncture won't stop these natural processes but will help you through the process with as much grace and ease as is possible. If we add in SE we begin to effectively unpackage the patterns that we have been living with, finding better ways that give us more autonomy.

Chronic Illness

As human beings, we are risk adverse. We are programmed for survival. Survival doesn't always mean living our best lives in our best health. In the simplest terms 'fight or flight' should be temporary - but for many of us it becomes permanent. Safety is only relevant and the energy of the meridians become 'pressured' into certain patterns rather than their healthy and harmonious flow.

This is when we begin to see diminishing health & chronic disease. Its also where the essence of the points becomes its most beautiful and meaningful. The connection between the mind and the body is of utmost importance.

I find that using acupuncture alongside SE here is a strong but gentle approach.

Types of pain

Acupuncture is best known for its ability to successfully treat pain.

We said before that Acupuncture does not recognise symptoms as a diagnosis in its self and the same is true for pain - although it is a physical manifestation, it is an indication that there is imbalance, stagnation or deficiency somewhere else in the body.
